I win!

So I found out yesterday that my alternate status had been changed! I am now an NSEP Boren scholar! w00t! go me! So now I have to go up to DC on Thursday and Friday for the reception and orientation. Should be pretty cool. Then, on Saturday, I'll be heading out on a road trip vamschmoozle of sorts. Its gonna be sweeeet.

In other news...I went biking on Thursday at Belle Isle. Ran into a deer on the path.

He was nice and let me take his picture. Then I found this weird contraption:

Its a hole with the covering propped up by a stack of rocks. It doesn't lead to any sweet tunnels, which was kind of disappointing, but there was a lot of trash in there.

Yeah, I can't get over the fact that I am going to Turkey next year for next to nothing.

I ROCK

06 June 2007

Not too much going on here...I have been relaxing the last couple of days and its been really nice. Went biking at a new place on Monday and found a killer new trail. It was a little damp still from the previous night's rain, but still lots of fun.

There was this sweet half pipe like river bed where the trail just went from one side to the other and back again all the wa y down. This is how it starts...

Drop off that ledge there and have at it. FUN!

I get to work at Red Robin again tomorrow. Turns out I wasn't fired...hah! After work, I'm heading to Belle Isle for some more biking and then a CDT meeting. After that, I may hang out with my Saudi friend and then its Guatemala reunion time! YAY! busy day...full of delicious food...and fun biking!

belle isle day

Went down to belle isle today for a little picnic lunch with Jason, Lindsey, and Tammers.

It was a fun day, but I wont be sitting on anymore rocks anytime soon, at least not the rocks in the water.

Yeah...gross little parasitic worms were on me after we got out of the water.

It was sooooo gross. They were like burrowing into my skin, trying to lay eggs. EWW

Ok, so I hope thats not what they were really doing, but one really did get a good bite of me. Nasty little buggers.

In other news...a bomb went off in Ankara today. Sweet...

Times they are a'changing

So I am starting the process of moving my stuff back to my mom's place. I am selling some, finding temporary homes for others, and giving away a few things, too. These pictures are for my dearest friend Lindsey who is moving into her very own apartment next week. She needs a dresser and I need to find a place to put mine...so yeh. Here you go:

I've also got a matching desk if you're interested...

In other news...I'm an alternate. Whatever. I can handle a little debt. I think...

Jason is graduating tomorrow. He's heading to grad school. Kind of crazy.

Tomorrow is going to be awesome. Spiderman 3 here I come.

belle isle rocks

I went biking yesterday down at Belle Isle. It was a beautiful day. Theres a path that goes along the river for miles. There are some crazy paths right next to the river, too, but I don't suggest trying to take the bike on them. Too many fallen trees.

At one point, I had to make a choice. I could either head through these tunnels...

Or cross the river via this little bridge...I chose this option. Took my shoes off and just walked the bike across. The water was super cold, but it felt good.

So I rode for like an hour, trying to find these mountain bike trails that were apparently around the area. I couldn't find them. I decided to take a break. Went out on one of the rocks and got my feet wet. There was this turtle that kept coming up to eat off the side of teh rock, but every time I tried to get his picture, he would swim off.

Eventually I got back on my bike and headed back. I finally found a trail.

It was a pretty sweet trail. I took it pretty slow though since I had never ridden it before and it was apparently a hard trail. (it wasn't) Next time I'm taking it the opposite way cause it looked a lot more fun.

All in all, it was a good two hour ride. I got real dirty and was real tired at the end, but it was totally worth it.

I love summertime.

You will all be happy to know

I found out today that I was not accepted to my summer program, so I will not be going to Turkey until August 31. We shall see about next summer.

You know...

I wish some people would listen to themselves more often

Memorial Service

Tonight at University of Richmond, 7:30 pm

Today we are all hokies

One of my friends found out her friend from Virginia Tech was shot twice in the leg, but okay. She is still waiting to hear from two of her friends, one of whom was in the engineering building at the time of the shooting. Another of my friends knows a guy who was shot in the arm. Another of my friends found out her friend died. All of my friends are okay, but shaken up (understandably). So many people are showing their support. I think everyone realizes this could have happened anywhere. Many are running through different scenarios in their head trying to figure out how they would react. Many are criticizing the VT administration for not getting notice to the students fast enough. Many are criticizing those involved, asking why no one stopped this guy. But you know, you never know how you will react in a situation until it happens to you. So all we can do now is show our support and be there for our family and friends.

Hooray for photo editing

Theres so much to do in the next two weeks, but then its all over. The semester, the work, the jobs, the waiting...DONE! I can't wait.

Then I can be as happy and carefree as these little guys:

And this little guy:

And I can drink my Goya:

And dream about Lake Atitlan:

Reverse culture shock hurts

Seriously?

I am stuck somewhere between Guatemala and Virginia

Come find me please

25 March 2007

Where am I?

I have found myself in a strange place

With strange, yet intriguing objects

And strange, yet amazingly awesome people

And strange, yet terrifyingly familiar occurrences

You know, it's really nice when someone adds a little color to your life.

Especially when you least expect it.

And especially when it is becoming increasingly harder to find color in your life.

Thank you for giving me color

Is this life "real life?"

I have been back in Virginia for three days now and I am still trying to return to "real life."

No more smiling children...

Strangers can no longer trust one another...

Love no longer grows in the absence of communication...

And curiosity is back to killing the cat...

This cannot be "real life"
